ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER BREAKS SILENCE ON LIVERPOOL TRANSFER SPECULATION

Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister insists he remains calm amid speculation he is set to complete his transfer to Liverpool as early as next week.

The Argentina World Cup winner has established a reputation as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders over the course of four years on the south coast.

Having played a key role in the Seagulls qualification for the Europa League, he is set to depart the south coast with the blessing of his manager Roberto de Zerbi.

Chelsea have expressed an interest in the gifted playmaker, but it is Liverpool who have drawn ahead in the race to sign the 24-year-old.

With new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke now in place, Liverpool are expected to ramp up their summer rebuild in the coming weeks with an emphasis on a midfield overhaul.

Reports earlier this week claimed Mac Allister’s signature could be wrapped up in the next seven days with an agreement on personal terms a formality.

‘I am very calm because I also have the possibility of being in a club like Brighton that accompanied me at all times and in which I really enjoy being,’ said Mac Allister, speaking to Miami-based Argentine news outlet Infobae when asked about his future.

‘If I do not have to leave the club I will continue to be very happy there, but I am aware that there are possibilities (to move) and if a good offer arrives for the club and for me we will evaluate it.

‘I have no doubts that (the Premier League) is the best league to play in and that is why I am aware that I would like my next club to be in the Premier. I really enjoy being there.’

Mac Allister added: ‘The objective is to continue improving as a person, as a player, to win more titles.

‘I think this is my short-term objective and it will always be, because I will always be the same person and I will want to be a little better than the day before, so I focus a lot on that.

‘I’m not going to complain, I’m 24 years old, I’m a world champion, I play in one of the best leagues in the world and I feel that my career is growing.

‘But I still have my feet on the ground and I really want to improve, becoming a better person and better player every day. We’ll see what the future brings.’
